Evercade 2024 – FAQ

With so many announcements this week, and a lot of information to get through,  we thought it would be great to answer some common questions from the Evercade community here in one handy place.

Evercade EXP-R

What changes are there between the EXP and EXP-R externally?

The Evercade EXP-R features a new colour scheme and has changes to the texture on the rear. The mini HDMI port has been removed to make this a focused handheld experience.

What changes are there between the Evercade EXP and Evercade EXP-R internally?

The Evercade EXP-R has a new, more efficient chipset with the same top speed that runs cooler than the original Evercade EXP. The battery will be the same capacity and, in long-term use, we expect better battery life. There is no additional chip for HDMI inside which helps with power consumption.

Are there any games built in?

No, the Evercade EXP-R has no built-in games. Game of the Month and Secret games will be accessible via WiFi as the Evercade EXP was before.

Are any cartridges included with the Evercade EXP-R?

Yes. The pack will include Tomb Raider Collection 1.

Why is this new model being made?

Like many console manufacturers, we decided to look at ways to bring new customers into the Evercade Eco-system. We dearly love our community of existing customers and always look to bring them exciting new experiences like Tomb Raider, but it is very important to grow our customer base. This growth enables us to plough money back into signing the best licences. Without this growth there would be no Tomb Raider or many of the exciting carts we have planned in the future.

Where’s Capcom gone?

We continue to work with Capcom, but in this instance we saw the benefit of delivering a better price point for the console rather than continue to offer the built-in games as part of the package.

Evercade VS-R

What changes are there between the Evercade VS and Evercade VS-R externally?

The Evercade VS-R offers a fresh and unified colourway with the Evercade EXP-R. There are no other differences. This is our TV focused model for those that want to play on the big screen.

What changes are there between the Evercade VS and Evercade VS-R internally?

We have made some very minor changes to the electronics. Other than that, it remains the same.

Are there any games built in?

No, the Evercade VS-R has no built in games. Game of the Month and Secret games will be accessible via WiFi as before.

Are any cartridges included?

Yes. The pack will include Tomb Raider Collection 1.

Does this come with an HDMI Cable?

No, the package does not include an HDMI cable. This was listed in error on announcement and has been corrected on our posts.

Why is this new model being made?

The Evercade VS-R has been introduced to unify the styling between the two models and introduce a new bundle pack including the Tomb Raider collection. We know many customers don’t want further duplications in their collection, but as with the Evercade EXP-R, if we can introduce new customers to Evercade, everyone benefits.

Giga Carts (including Tomb Raider Collection 1)

What is the difference between a standard cartridge and a Giga cartridge?

These cartridges have a higher capacity of memory than standard carts. This means they can include larger games offering better value for money. But there is no difference in the physical shape or size of the cartridge, or case.

Are Giga Carts compatible with all Evercade hardware?

Yes.

Even the original handheld?

Yes.

What about the Super Pockets?

Yes.

Why do they cost more?

The higher memory capacity means a higher production cost. They have around double the previous maximum cartridge capacity.

Tomb Raider Collection 1

Are the games in this collection the originals or the recent remasters?

The games included are the original 32-bit games.

Will these use Tank Controls?

Yes, these are the original control schemes as they were when released, except for the Evercade original handheld which will have some combos to use shoulder buttons. These controls are all listed in the manual included in the box.

Does this include Tomb Raider Unfinished Business, Tomb Raider II: Golden Mask or Tomb Raider III: The Lost Artefact?

No, these standalone expansions were not released on home console systems and are not a part of this collection.

Where are the analogue controllers for Evercade?

Most 32-bit games either didn’t use analogue controls or duplicated the D-pad controls with the analogue stick. All games will be perfectly playable with a D-pad on Evercade devices. However, there are plans for the Evercade VS and Evercade VS-R to support third-party controllers with analogue controls in future updates.
