Evercade Handheld Updater FAQs

Problem: Windows warns me not to run this program.arrow

Solution: This is normal. Windows will often warn you about opening files you have downloaded from the internet. To run the updater, click "More Info" on the warning screen, and select the "Run Anyway" option to open the updater.
There may be some instances, depending on your version of Windows and your last update, where Windows Defender will prevent the program from running. This can be countered by temporarily disabling Windows Defender or by using "Quick Allow" on the program if you are able to do so.

Problem: My Drivers are missing?arrow

Solution: This is normal. Version 2.0 and above requires updates to the existing Evercade drivers so the new updater will not recognise the current ones. Simply follow the on-screen prompt to "reinstall" the drivers and you'll be able to update the firmware once complete.

Question: How long do I need to hold the "Menu" button down for?arrow

Answer: You normally only need to hold it down for 2-3 seconds tops and only when prompted to by the instructions on the installer. You can release it as soon as the installer starts to begin its installation, or when your computer makes the sound when a USB device connects.

Problem: My Evercade won't connect to the PC.arrow

Solution: Check that your cable is secure in both your PC and also your Evercade micro USB port. If it is and the PC does not find your Evercade, then try an alternative cable.

Problem: My Mac isn't recognising my Evercadearrow

Solution: Firstly, try a different cable. All USB cables are not equal and a change of cable is normally the easiest route.
If this doesn't work, then restart your Mac but leave the Evercade plugged in and turned on. Sometimes Mac OS does not see the device unless it reads it at startup. Following this, run the update process as normal and you should now be able to update.

Problem: My Evercade is stuck on the "Blaze Entertainment" intro screen.arrow

Solution: This is completely normal. When updating from 1.X.X firmware for the first time, the firmware will update backend files and take longer on its initial boot. This can take up to 10 seconds before loading into the new firmware. If it doesn't automatically restart after 60 seconds, retry the firmware update.

Problem: My updater is stuck on a white screen and not loading.arrow

Solution: We have found that certain integrated GPU options like those on laptops were struggling with the new updater's graphical interface. If you do have a white screen when opening your updater, you can download this additional file which will open the updater in "Safe Mode" so that you can update normally. You can find the link here:
https://blaze-evercade.com/Firmware/GPU_Safemode.zip

Problem: My PC/Mac doesn't meet the required specs.arrow

Solution: Most PCs and Macs of the last ten years should support those minimum specs. If your computer does not meet them, then you can run the updater on any computer that does if one is accessible to you. For Windows 7 & 8 users, you will need to run an additional program first to install support for the 64-bit installer software. You can download it by clicking the below link: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

Question: Do I have to upgrade the firmware?arrow

Answer: No, however, we highly recommend it. By not upgrading, you will lose out on a lot of new features and abilities the new firmware provides. Including controller mode support for the Evercade VS (link cable available separately), vastly improved save game support, and other quality of life updates for the system.

Problem: I have received an error message or my update has failed.arrow

Solution: If you leave the installer for long enough, it will time out and say "Internal Error: No devices detected, or driver not installed." If this happens, simply click "RESTART UPDATE"
For any other errors, please close and restart the updater to try again. Make sure your Evercade is switched off before you do so if connected. If problems persist and you've tried any of the above solutions, then please email our support team at support@evercade.co.uk.

Question: I'm having issues upgrading that aren't listed here.arrow

Answer: Please email support@evercade.co.uk with a description of your issue, and we will investigate further.

Question: Can I roll back to previous versions of the firmware?arrow

Answer: No, we only offer the latest available version for download.
